Scorpiurus muricatus is an annual leguminous plant native to southern Europe with tiny pea-like flowers and simple leaves uncharacteristic of a legume. Its contorted, pubescent pods give rise to its common name "Prickly Caterpillar". It is said that they were grown in the 1880’s as a curiosity, usually to surprise unsuspecting dinner guests. They were not meant to be eaten, (they’re too prickly), but are harmless and quite amusing.” Nitrogen Fixing Plants, Carnivorous Pitcher Plant, Magic Plants, Weird Flowers, Strange Plants, Pitcher Plants, Dragon Garden, Interesting Plants, Goth Garden
