Zeus is the sky and thunder god in ancient Greek religion, who rules as king of the gods of Mount Olympus. It was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The statue was lost and destroyed during the 5th century AD; details of its form are known only from ancient Greek descriptions and representations on coins.

The Temple of Zeus at Olympia. The enormous temple housed the famed statue of Zeus, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. The Chryselephantine statue was approximately 45 ft. high, and was made by the sculptor Phidias in his workshop on the site at Olympia. The statue's completion took approximately 12 years and was one of antiquity's most revered artistic works.
