Eddie Glew on Instagram: "A Gypsy Rose was one of the first things Dad taught me & was always a great little earner at shows. If the baskets weren't selling, we'd at least have some queens heads to go home with.
Dad would be on the plank weaving a basket, and I'd be at the front on the shave horse churning out roses.

From what I know the flowers roots hail from the Romani community, who have made these for hundreds of years. A Romany Gypsy who used to stop by our hamlet each year sold them amongst all her other creations. I vaguely remember dad buying pegs.

These days the flowers are a staple among green woodworkers. I use hazel or willow and use a shave horse & draw knife. I prefer the more seasoned wood which gives tighter twists🌿
