The heart of the project lies in what Paterlini calls vertical composition: each piece unfolds through loops created in real time, stacked one over another like geological strata. From delicate piano textures to evolving strings and electronic pulses, every layer interacts with the others, creating music that is at once intimate, expansive, and deeply alive.
Layers represents a new artistic chapter for Paterlini. While rooted in the elegance and lyricism that have always defined his work, the album pushes beyond the boundaries of modern classical music, embracing experimentation, improvisation and the physical energy of live performance. The result is an immersive sound world — melancholic yet vibrant, minimal yet richly orchestrated — where repetition becomes transformation and silence becomes space.
Recorded with the duo LoopArc (Remondini–Zeni), Layers is not only an album but also the blueprint of a concert experience: three musicians sharing the stage, building soundscapes in real time, and inviting the audience into a journey of constant motion.
