a hair brush with silver and white feathers attached to it's head, sitting on a table

I was needing to do new pictures of it any way. You need a long "doll needle" which can be found at a craft shop, a quality thread, and the hair. I'd reccomend a thimble too. The hair needs to be cut at twice the length you want as it will be folded in half. Stick the needle eye first through the hole, use the thimble on your thumb to poke if need be, if you need a hole make it with the sharp tip. Only the eye sticks out of the neck, thread the needle and pull it out...

the doll is laying down on the bed

I found these 2 lovelies at a thrift store for $1.99 each! They are American Girl Doll Bitty Baby twins As you can see both had some ink and glitter nail polish. I CAREFULLY used non-acetone nail polish remover and got off most of the nail polish. But there were still a LOT of ink marks! Someone tried to fix this blonde baby and wiped away her eyebrows and lip color in an attempt to repair the damage (before I found her). She also has glitter polish and ink inside her mouth, YUK! This little…

a doll laying on top of a towel next to a hair dryer and bottle

I saw this sweet girl the other day while browsing eBay. She is a 1953 Effanbee Honey 16" hard plastic doll. The eBay ad said she was purchased at an Estate Sale and The lady said she'd had this doll since she was a girl. Here she is right after she arrived here. She has her original dress! Oh dear! Someone tried to use red nail polish to fix her lips! and her fingernails! and her toenails! Oh no! Remember to always use non-acetone nail polish to fix nail polish mistakes. Acetone can melt…

two pictures of the same doll's arm and hand, one with writing on it

Blogging makes me weirder. My friend told me her son drew all over her childhood baby doll with a pen, and my first response was to excitedly ask "Could I borrow the doll?" I did have a legitimate reason for asking- we're testing a permanent ink remover for review and I had not yet tried it on a doll. So wee Elizabeth came to visit (I can't say young Elizabeth as she's almost as old as I am). The young artist in residence had tattooed her with a giveaway ballpoint pen. He didn't just doodle…

a doll, scissors, and other crafting supplies laid out on a table

I have a very large collection of AG dolls and the majority of them came to me secondhand. Over the years I have learned how to repair almost every issue I encounter. Today lets focus on loose limbs. American Girl doll vinyl limbs are attached to the body with an elastic cord from inside the limbs going into the body. After years of play the elastic can stretch out causing the legs to hang out of the sockets. Storing or displaying dolls in a sitting position can lead to loose limbs quickly…

a naked doll laying on top of a bed

Oh no! Your doll has a stain! A word about prevention… Unsightly and upsetting stains can be caused by shoes, tights, fabrics, even bias tape used on garments to finish the edges of armholes, necklines and hems, etc. First and foremost is protecting your precious girl from the stains in the first place. She can wear tights and even protective undergarments like those offered by CoolCat here. Many fabrics can leave stains on a doll. Red, black, and indigo blue are the main colors that have…

a white porcelain doll with blue eyes laying on a plastic wrap around it's body

My husband has taken to searching online for dolls I might like to restore. I know! What a gem! A couple days ago he came across an ad for these two little girls. They both belonged to the seller's mother. His mother's name is Nancy Erickson. I'm so grateful that Nancy's son found a new home for these dolls instead of throwing them away! On the left is this composition Horsman baby doll. She is about 15" long. She is from the 1930s. And on the right is this China Head doll who is about 15"…
