Me and the hubby are building and are 50/50 on this. We both think the flat island is prettier looking/cleaner BUT as far as thinking livability there is no hiding drying dishes, soap containers, paper towl holder aka eye sores. the stepped up island- would have an outlet or 2 extra, hide eye sores...
