Heard nothing yet, don't know but seems difficult. As PEN owns its rights and there is no BD in the market by PEN yet (I guess), may be they plan in future to release some BDs like SHOLAY (owned Video Copyrights only, for limited period) earlier owners were MoserBaer, Ultra, Eros, PEN.
SINGH SAAB THE GREAT is done by EROS. However MoserBaer did few PEN movies (owned) recently including ISSAQ, CHATUR SINGH TWO STAR. KAHO NA PYAR HAI dvd was released by PEN but later MoserBaer. May be any other copyrights owner of SHOLAY release Blu-ray in future, Chances are for EROS, and if EROS then we can expect alternate end in Special features Last edited by prepress; 04-25-2014 at 03:37 PM. Well, that's too bad...for the world to not have access to the bluray especially after 250 people worked for 3 years to resurrect the classic and re-released in Indian cinemas...

Something like 3D + 2D Blu-ray 3D + Making of the film/Converting into 3D process/etc. 2D + Making of the film and Music/Cast Interviews etc. Price 1499/- or 1999/- is okay. |

Bit of a double edge sword for those involved really.
Firstly, they incurred significant losses on the project. They'll be working at a loss when preparing this up for a 3D BR release. Further expenses they may not realise let alone see followed by any profit. A DVD 3D release won't cut it. A BR release probably won't sell sufficient numbers to generate a profit. Here in the UK 3D has taken off to a degree. It's a novelty which is swiftly wearing off. Seeing Sholay in 3D would be great. Seeing it on BR would be fantastic. Seeing the 3D BR on 2D BR alone will look strange as the superimposed effects will potentially look very artificial. Either way, a bit of a double edge sword. 3D in India, i don't know how well its taken off if at all. Back in Punjab where my famly ancestry originates from BR isn't even sold in the city music and video stores on the basis that there's no market for it locally. That's disheartening. When my parents made their annual 4 month trip I gave them a shopping list of Bollywood BR's to bring back. Nothing. I even contacted some of the stores by phone but was told there's no interest in BR discs. How dissapointing. Unfortunately, the UK market isn't much better. It's far easier acquiring the movie's in a non convential and offensive manner (torrent) than it is in the proper manner as none of the bigger stores stock the movies in the 'international' movies section. If I were behind Sholay 3D, I'd look to release a steelbook. A limited edition. Then, within 6 months, i'd offer the 2D HD version to Zee and Star to destroy in order to put it up on their channels in a compressed format with banners and ads playing every 30 seconds. Rant over. |

I recall reading somewhere that the Sholay Producers anticipated recouping 25% of their investment via theatrical showings, 50% thru TV, 10% via home video, and the rest - I don't remember....did they grossly miss these targets?
How is it they've released blurays of old movies like Chupke, Chupke, Golmaal, Anand, Bawarchi....howz the profitability working out for those....if anyone knows.... |

^Yes. I was looking to see it here in the US as well. But it never came. Many Tamil films haven't showed up here off late either unless some member of the community purchases it from the distributors. And it's not like I live in a tiny city with an almost nonexistent Indian population; it's quite the contrary.

Guys, just take a look at this : -
http://www.ebay.com/itm/SHOLAY-HINDI...item4ad3903c8e It reads 16:9 Anamorphic Widescreen & "Mastered in High - Definition" Should we fall for it? |

That's probably a fake. DEI's disc was non-anamorphic and cropped to about 1.9:1.
The only 16:9 full widescreen version was a French edition by Carlotta. No English subs, though. http://www.amazon.fr/Sholay-Édition...eywords=sholay Review (in French) Last edited by Dragun; 04-30-2014 at 05:41 PM. |
