I enjoy CarPlay on my 2025 CX-5, with my iPhone SE 26.0.1. But there is one thing I don't understand. When my phone is wired to the car, and CarPlay is wholly functional, I see my contact Favorites listed along with my full contact list. But when the phone is NOT wired to the car, and is just connected with Bluetooth, I see my full contact list, but the Favorites folder is empty. I have several Favorites, and a contact list with several hundred. I'd rather not have to scroll through that long contact list to find my Favorites. Is it possible, when just connected by Bluetooth, to get my Favorites to appear? I am offered a Favorites folder, but nothing is in it.

I think that list is likely completely separate to anything you see via the phone\Carplay. Those ones will be based on what you have set on the phone as Carplay is effectively just another screen for your phone.

The favourites you are seeing when Bluetooth connected will be part of the cars infotainment system and will need to be set separately via the car system. At least this is how it works on both our cars.

Thanks. You might be right that this is really independent of CarPlay. It just uses the same screen. But what I don't understand is how the system sucks up my whole contact list from my iPhone, but doesn't get my very short list of contacts from that iPhone. It offers a list of my contacts, but that list is empty. Maybe those aren't really iPhone contacts, but just a list I'm supposed to select on my car system?

OK, bransoj, you were EXACTLY right. I needed to set up the Favorites in the car's system. CarPlay is evidently not involved. The car downloads all the contacts from my iPhone, but does NOT download the Favorites. You have to select the contact in the car system, and then command it to be added to favorites. On my Mazda CX-5, it's especially easy. A long press on the selection button puts the contact in Favorites. Thanks again!
