I can consistently make a Home Screen bug which will leave me unable to recover until the iPad somehow resets.

With Magic Keyboard trackpad, I try to drag one app icon on page 2 of Home Screen into a folder on page 1. I’m often unable to do so and the movement gets in a stuck state where the app icon being moved just hovers on page 1. Pressing sleep button or lock key doesn’t put iPad to sleep. Nothing recovers it until after some time the iPad goes blank except for a spinning sun ray. Then the Home Screen returns.

Anyone have this issue?

I’m on iPad Pro 11 inch M4 and Magic Keyboard.

When is iPadOS 26.1 coming out?

I experienced and able to replicate this identical issue today on my M4 iPad Pro 11” on iPadOS 26 with Home Screen icons customization set to “Clear” and with/without Magic Keyboard.

Tried dragging the Preview app from screen 5 to screen 2 and the Home Screen locked up in between screen transitions. None the buttons were responsive or display. The Home Screen eventually recovers—blacks out with spinner and returns.

Subsequent tries, it was easier to force a restart since the iPad was heating up:

1. Quickly press and release Volume Up.
2. Quickly press and release Volume Down.
3. Press and hold the Top button until the Apple logo appears, then release.

Then I changed the Home Screen icons customization to default—colored icons, which seemed to have resolved the issue.

Same issue here:

Well today i just updated my ipad m4 11inches to ios26, well i couldn't drag icons into a folder without the device freezing and resetting...

I had to perform a clean ios 26 installation (using no previous backups a clean one) problem solved...

Interesting. I think my icons already are default so I’ll try to make a change and change it back to default to see if this resolves future issues
