Hey all

I was trying to reinstall monterey on my 2015 macbook air and after 10 minutes the counter went from 2 hours for the install to 14. I canceled and tried big Sur. Same thing 14 hour install. So instead I downloaded the ISO for Monterey and made a usb installer. anyone know if there is a problem at Apple

Yes it does look like something is going on on Apple's side(not necessary Monterey related).

Even with the USB installer(Big Sur, Sonoma) the counter went to 3 hours or more. So I cancelled and installed Tahoe beta from the USB installer, did not like it, erased the entire drive, did a reboot and now have a brick on my hands.

Maybe just be patient and wait for more than 10 min minutes with the USB install?
Considering that I did not have to wait with the Tahoe USB installation it is not as straightforward as you might think.

Perhaps Apple deliberately does not want you to install earlier macOS versions.

I have had this type of thing with 10.13 even when it was the current os. It took an entire night to complete. Issues with apples servers.

With a USB installer? This is strange. I was under the impression that you don't actually need to have an internet connection to install macOS on a Mac with an Intel CPU.

It is the Apple Silicon Macs that Apple likes to keep a grip on by requiring an internet connection with a clock counter of 3+ hours regardless of you using a USB installer.
