It's perfect! And when someone is driving and messing with their phone, I twist the throttle and it becomes like godzilla roaring, people jump from their seat.
That's awesome lol.

I'm not crazy about "tear your eardrums out" loud, but I do appreciate an audible motorcycle when I'm driving. If I hear one coming and I don't already see it, I will scan around until I find it because I like to keep their position in mind. In SoCal a lot of people ride bikes, especially during commute hours. People ride them because you can bypass a lot of traffic jams by lane splitting, and so that's common. Definitely not a good place to be not paying attention on your phone!

Also bikes are really cool. :3

We have some in my city in Australia, but they are rare and considered "experimental" ie, under trial so I think you don't get any penalties.

Some of the Golf Rs and similar getting around are so loud they shake windows with their exhaust explosions. They aren't really going fast either.

I don't see how those noise cameras can be so difficult, they are used commonly elsewhere.

Do you have loud capturing cameras in the US? Like a speed camera, but if your car is over a certain dbl level you get fined.

NYC has sound pollution cameras. There are even OEM exhausts that have exceeded the db level that have resulted in tickets.

My motorcycle will definitely get a ticket if I was to pass one of these.

Also, what we have in the city center is that. Cars from a certain year or older are not allowed in the city center. If caught, will pay a fine.

I am listening to this with my headphones:

The Hans-Joachim Stuck 962C supercup car chassis 962-009. 850kg, 515kW, powered by 935/83 flat-6 3.0L with two Kühnle, Kopp & Kausch turbochargers.

Amazing. Engine sounds very healthy. :)

This originally had one of the experimental PDK transmissions, but since none of them are working these days (and could not be economically rebuilt) it has a standard 5 speed manual from a normal 962C. It was previously an experimental high downforce car but has since been restored to H.J Stuck's Supercup configuration with the iconic Shell/Dunlop colour scheme.

So funny to see the little red Porsche key used to start it. Just turn the key and away you go, so typically Porsche race car style. And they just work, no nonsense.

At 6 minutes is the Group 44 Jaguar XJR5, I bet that big V12 beast is fun in the rain.

Porsche Panamera is also excellent at that.

Near where I live someone had a Cayenne S Diesel with the V8 diesel, think it was a 4.2L V8 with 385hp and 850Nm torque. That thing also sounded very sweet. It wasn't noisy, but it did have a lovely classic V8 rumbling noise.

You wouldn't even guess it was a diesel.

I also like the old 993 911 Turbo, that's another pleasant sounding thing.

Had a guy playing chicken with me on the highway after he perceived I cut him off. No, I did not, I just had positional advantage and he was overly agressive. 🤔 Anyway, I want a dash cam and it seems many of the attach to the windshield. How about yours, if you have one? What do you like or dislike about it. Any advice?

So get one with a front and rear camera.
I wouldn’t drive without one after being assaulted by a road rage driver years ago.
Yes mine attaches to the windscreen with a 3m square sticker. Stats in place. It’s right up by the rearview mirror so I can’t even see it from the drivers side.

Too many idiots on the road.

Front and rear cameras is a given. Just looking for tips as to the best type configuration or anything to avoid.

I've been using this front dash cam for a couple of years (the front + back model wasn’t available yet):

I bought the Miofive based on the recommendations at Wirecutter.

Things I like
  • The power source is based on a capacitor, not a battery.
  • It didn't cost that much. I live in an urban area and car break-ins are widespread.
  • It does what it's supposed to well: record clear video, day and night, onto a micro SD card that allows easy transfers to my desktop computer.
Things I don't like
  • Aligning the camera requires going a couple of menus deep in the Settings. This is a pain when I'm remounting the camera after hiding it when parking in a risky area.
  • A circular polarizer filter for the lens and a high capacity SD card were separate purchases (there is no need to use Miofive-brand SD cards; I'm using a Samsung 512GB)
  • Hitting a big bump or making a sharp turn can trigger the Emergency mode when nothing bad has happened.
  • The windshield mounting system does feel flimsy, as noted in the Wirecutter review, but it has held up so far.
I don't use any of the Wi-Fi or app connectivity stuff. I just let the cam record whenever I'm driving and use my Mac to look at the videos.

Bottom line: I would buy the same dash cam again if something happened to the one I have now.

He passed you, turned around, and came at you !? He must have been flying past you to arrange all that!

Do dash cams work so that if you are in an accident, is it immediate recorded in case the camera unit is damaged?

No, it really wasn’t traditional chicken, this was one of those drivers who in heavy traffic will go as fast as he has space to well above the posted speed limit, while I am not an aggressive driver, stay in the 5+, sometimes 10+ if passing. And if I see a fast mover coming up, normally I stay in my lane until they pass. We both converged into the second lane after passing a slow moving car, me from the right lane and he from the 3rd lane but I was in front. My guess he though by his desire to go fast, he had the right away. He moved to the right lane, passed on the right, then cut in front of me so close as to almost cause a collision. I honked my horn and gave him the finger, he threw on his brakes as if to come back for more, then thought better of it and took off. If there had been a collision, the camera would have recorded it.

Most of them are constantly recording, so if it is stopped you get right up until it is stopped. They will overwright when full with the oldest files out first. The important thing, at least to me, is to have it recording even when parked. That's when I get door nicks, or bumper kisses at public parking (malls, stores...). You would have to make sure it doesn't kill the battery though or have it's own internal rechargeable battery.

Some have crash detection built in.

Some will even stream to your phone via wifi so you can get the data right away.

I have 2 very expensive dashcams... They each came with a car already installed around them...

The OEM drive recorder that came with my car constantly records, and is set to auto save going back twenty seconds before the crash is detected.

I carry two USB keys in the glovebox to export crash videos in case of accident. One for the police and one for me.

I also carry a flash reader with USB-C and Lightning (it has an adapter that hangs onto it) to be able to read the files right away. I also carry an extra SD flash card, so I can pull the drive with the recording and put a new card in, so I don't risk losing the incident.

Reader I have in both my cars. Each were <$8 on Amazon.

Here's what my cam does (this is the Emergency mode I mentioned earlier):

Emergency Recordings
A 60-second video will be captured when the G-Sensor is activated in case of sharp turns or a sudden stop. When the capacity of these videos reaches 30% of the memory card space, the oldest ones will be overwritten by the new ones.

In other words, the cam records a longer-than-normal video that has less chance of being automatically overwritten when the cam's motion sensors detect movement that could indicate a crash (non-Emergency videos are 30 seconds long, if I remember correctly, and are subject to more frequent overwriting—this is why a high capacity SD card is beneficial).

So if the cam survives an accident, there will be 60 seconds of the aftermath. If the cam is damaged, there will be recordings of what transpired in the 30 seconds—and probably more—before the cam stopped working, assuming the SD card remains readable.

I didn't realise that Garry Rogers had passed away:

He was one of the big names of Australian motorsport - strong in racing and then famous as a team owner and also developed the Holden Monaro third generation into a very successful racing car with 7.0L 427C Monaro.

RIP.

Dash Cam continued- I did not do enough research on this. I ordered a Viofo 4K camera and I did not realize the rear camera was a seperate unit. I was thinking the screen was a monitor and the small rear view camera was the camera. 😐 I’ve got a 2020 Minicooper convertible, and I could stick the rear view mirror on the rear window, but it would have to be disconnected and come off the window, for when putting the top down (I think) which is not convienent. I spoke to their customer service, and shockingly they of little help. They do sell an exterior camera that can be mounted on the bumper with a drill hole for the wire.
Anyone know if they have duel cameras units with both cameras on the front windshield? I realize if they do, this may not be workable or ideal for a rear camera looking from the front of the car to see out back.
