When it comes to funkily uplifting drum 'n' bass, no-one does it like Simple Souls.

From the addition of live instruments to their deejay sets, to their twisting of the liquid funk formula across their discography, these guys have always brought something fresh and unexpected to the table. With releases on labels like Liquid V, Fokuz and now Four Corners, it's clear their combination of technical musicality and uncompromising party vibes are a winner.

And this is a particularly special release. As the EP title 'Friends' suggests, this one's all about collaborations, and Simple Souls clearly have some very talented mates to call on. You've probably already clocked the EP bonus track 'Heat' from Simple Souls and Danny Wheeler which will drop as a free download, but that's just one facet to this project.

Link and Jimmy Danger jump in for 'Blue Note Swing', where Jimmy's laid-back bars ride over a slick piano-led groove, interspersed with ice-cool instrumental solos. Then there's more jazz beauty to be found in the Kodan collab 'Wave' where horns lead the way and keys set the tone.

But there's even more to discover. Professor Funk laces 'Survivors' blending influences of hip-hop with atmospheric DnB, while 'Ride On' featuring MC Fedora takes us into full singalong anthem mode.

In short, this EP sounds like musicians of all kinds – producers, instrumentalists and vocalists – finding joy in the possibilities of DnB, and paying that forward to the listener and raver. These are feel good tunes by and for people who care about music, and that makes it an essential acquisition.
