With the number of paved bike paths around Florida, it’s hard to believe that it’s been just a little more than thirty years since the first major one was established. With John’s extensive cycling background, it’s our mission to explore them all.
We’ll share ride reports here and build full trail details over time. Some of these are longer rides, others are short paved trails inside of parks.

Cross Seminole Trail A 27.6 mile paved bike path connecting to the Orange and Volusia county lines, the Cross Seminole Trail provides access to a massive network of Central Florida bike trails. East Central Regional Rail Trail Spanning 36.2 linear miles across southern Volusia County, the East Central Regional Rail Trail offers a long ride that also makes up a portion of several major Florida bike trails. Florida Coast to Coast Trail With a corridor spanning more than 220 miles across nine Florida counties, the Florida Coast to Coast Trail (C2C) is Central Florida's long distance bike path. Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail Spanning from Key West to Key Largo, this 108-mile linear state park corridor is an island-hopping slice of tropical paradise along the former route of the Florida Overseas Railroad.
Gainesville-Hawthorne Trail One of North Florida's oldest bike paths, the Gainesville-Hawthorne Trail provides a mostly shaded rural ride.
Jacksonville-Baldwin Rail Trail Following a historic railroad route that sparked the Battle of Olustee during the Civil War, the Jacksonville-Baldwin Rail Trail spans 14.6 miles from Jacksonville to Baldwin. Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail An overlay on the Florida Trail around Lake Okeechobee, the Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail provides a mostly paved cycling and walking route around the second largest lake entirely within the borders of the United States. Nature Coast Trail Connecting three rural counties, the Nature Coast Trail offers several different ways to ride between towns along 31.5 miles of paved bike path
Palatka to St. Augustine Trail Connecting two of North Florida's most historic cities, the Palatka to St. Augustine Trail follows the route of Henry Flagler's East Coast Railway through rural farming communities. Palatka-Lake Butler Trail With a corridor spanning nearly 50 miles through North Florida, the Palatka-Lake Butler State Trail provides paved trail for riders and an unpaved corridor used by the Florida Trail Pinellas Trail A paved ribbon stretching the length of Pinellas County from St. Petersburg to Tarpon Springs, the Fred Marquis Pinellas Trail provides cyclists with nearly 38 miles of low-stress cruising. Spring to Spring Trail A paved bike path to link Volusia County's major springs, the Spring to Spring Trail provides a growing network of trail and park connectivity. Suncoast Trail Stretching 41.3 miles from the Tampa metro to north of Brooksville, the Suncoast Trail is one of the longest continuous paved bike paths in Florida Van Fleet Trail Cruise up a wooded corridor through the Green Swamp along 29.2 miles of paved trail on an old rail corridor optimized for a long ride through the heart of rural Central Florida West Orange Trail Spanning 20.8 miles from Oakland to Apopka, the West Orange Trail connects communities along Lake Apopka with a dedicated paved bike path. Riding the East Coast Greenway to Stuart (7/14/2022) Scouting a piece of the East Coast Greenway on the Treasure Coast, John's on-the-ground wayfinding stopped him short of his intended goal. Biking Pine Island Conservation Area (12/20/2020) Within sight of the massive Vehicle Assembly Building at Kennedy Space Center, this ride to the Indian River Lagoon offers some of the best birding you'll do by bike. Biking Scottsmoor Flatwoods East (12/9/2020) At Scottsmoor Flatwoods Sanctuary, the trails are open to hikers, cyclists, and equestrians. But as we learned, off-road biking here can be more than a little challenging. Biking the Southern Glades Trail (10/10/2020) Taking a ride through the Everglades on one of Miami-Dade's most remote offroad bike trails made for "Bill and John's Most Excellent Adventure." Connecting the Spring to Spring Trail (10/5/2020) With a goal of connecting all three segments of the Spring to Spring Trail together using roads in between, John rides from Lake Monroe Park to De Leon Springs on a 25.6 mile route.
