Circuit Judge Dawn Nichols sentenced Palm Coast’s Devarus Oshay Bethea, 38, to 14 years in prison, by far his longest of his four prison sentences since 2010, with an additional five years he gets to serve concurrently. Bethea pleaded to trafficking fentanyl, a first-degree felony, and unlawful use of a communication device, a third-degree felony. He could have faced 35 years in prison and $100,000 fine. The fine was waived. He spoke to the judge of the latin root for the word “remorse” in hopes of mitigating his sentence.

Last week, her 56-year-old son, Thomas Frazzetto of White Star Drive in Palm Coast, was arrested on a felony charge of grand theft and a felony charge of fraud. He’d faked his late mother’s signature on a series of checks in November and made a half dozen electronic transfers out of her bank account in October and November, allegedly stealing some $9,000 before family members got an alert from the bank: someone was attempting to cash a $51,200 check.

No Outright Indications of Mechanical Failures in Plane Crash That Claimed Pilot’s Life in West Flagler
A preliminary investigation of the Feb. 14 plane crash that took the life of pilot 75-year-old Thomas Harvey in western Flagler County reveals that the plane had followed a normal flight path until it suddenly began to drop rapidly, at more than 200 feet per second before impact. There was no evidence of a fire on board and “no indications of a flight control anomaly were discovered,” according to the National Transportation Safety Board’s preliminary report, suggesting that Harvey may have suffered a medical episode.

John R. Jenkins, Home Health Care Nurse, Arrested After Footage Shows Him Brutalizing Disabled, Voiceless Man
John Roy Jenkins, 68, had been caring for a profoundly disabled man in his 20s in palm Coast since last March. When the alleged victim’s mother looked at indoor surveillance video, she uncovered repeated cases of Jenkins’s physical and verbal abuse against and torment against her son. He faces four felony counts of abusing a disabled person.
