Dr. Chris McElderry | Neurologic Clinical Specialist on Instagram: "🤩 Here’s how I prescribe a Home Exercise Program!

🕺 Make it fun, make it meaningful and make it one that individuals will follow-through with!

🧠 It’s difficult for those with Parkinson’s to sustain motor output, particularly at a forced pace. The use of external cues to help initiate large amplitude steps are no stranger to PT’s in the rehab realm, however less of us use auditory cues (although sometimes they don’t work as it can lead to more interference and difficulty processing).

🎶 Try tapping into some automatic, fun movement patterns by putting on one’s favorite songs! I used Spotify and looked up 120 BPM, however you can find just about any speed and tailor it to each individual.

😄 You can add a TON of d Parkinson’s Exercise, Knee Mobility, Senior Exercises, Home Exercise Program, Home Exercise, Bust A Move, Exercise Program, Senior Fitness, Physical Therapy

Dr. Chris McElderry | Neurologic Clinical Specialist on Instagram: "🦵 One of the most foundational, key exercises to perform particularly as we age! The Sit-to-Stand (or variations of this) should be a STAPLE in any good exercise program. ‼️The variation shown above highlights the importance of a forward weight-shift, a movement pattern that individuals with Parkinson’s Disease (specifically) seem to struggle the most (retropulsion – feeling/tendency to step/fall backward in an uncontrolled manner). 🧠 Besides Parkinson’s Disease, other neurologic diagnoses may have difficulty with visuospatial awareness and others simply the fear of falling! This results in an inadequate weight shift forward during the sit-to-stand transition! It is important to know the “why” behind the struggle and Parkinson Exercises, Knee Mobility, Parkinsons Exercises, Movement Pattern, Fear Of Falling, Exercise Program, Sit To Stand, Senior Fitness, The Fear
