I picked up these boo-babies at Costco and thought I’d show you a little trick that’s easy and will help ensure you have blueberries this year. Since we’re at the starts of the season, I like to re-pot my new plants in a slightly larger pot than what they came in. In this case, sizing up from a 1 gallon to 3. I have found that keeping them a little snug helps them focus on fruiting rather than spreading roots. I then plant everything in a larger pot (for stability) in a mixture of topsoil, mushroom compost and sand. Amy || Suburban Homesteader on Instagram: "You NEED to grow blueberries!
Here’s how ⬇️

First and foremost, blueberries like to have their roots in an acidic environment so if your soil isn’t naturally acidic, your job is to make it for them.

Before you plant a blueberry bush, you need to prepare the soil by taking out a foot deep of soil and replace it with a mixture of peatmoss, topsoil, and sulfur pellets.

When you are ready to plant the blueberries, take out some of the soil, put in your plant, and refill the area with the soil you took out.

Bareroot bushes are best, but potted work too.

After you have planted the bush, top the soil with pine bark. You can find it at any garden center. Then top the pine bark with a slow release blueberry fertilizer and water it in well.
