Witch Candle Company is Which?

I found this Gurley witch at a garage sale this year. It's nice to find these vintage items still, particularly at garage sale prices.

Gurley Witch

Gurley candles, such as this witch, were a Halloween staple of the 1970's.

Gurley Jack O' Lantern

I've posted quite a few Gurley candles (not "Girly", the Gurley Novelty company of Buffalo, New York) over the years here at the blog, the vast majority of them being Halloween-themed.

I haven't come across this one before.

Sunni Enlightenment

I previously wrote about Bud the Bus Driver's estate sale where I found the sealed box of vintage animal crackers. Bud and his wife also had a nice collection of vintage Halloween.  Among it, I found these 2 Suni candles which were produced in the late 1970's and early 80's.

Gurley Bleeding Skull Candles

I've written about Gurley candles in previous years' posts, here and here.  One of the harder to find, not to mention perhaps a bit more controversial candle were their bleeding skull candles.

I found this one, already burned and bled at a garage sale about a month ago.

Wax On, Wax Off

I'm not sure of the age of this Glenn Confections Fun Gum.  It has a 9-digit zip code.  Zip+4 was introduced in 1983 in the United States.  Glenn confections went out of business in 1994.  At any rate, it's a survivor.  The original recipient resisted the urge to chew it.

Oooooo ooo, Witchy Woman

This witch has seen better days, but she was unique and not like other candles I've seen.

Waxing Nostalgic for Halloween

I found this set of 3 smiling wax Jack O' Lanterns at an estate sale a couple weeks ago.

Ceramic Ghost and Jack O' Lantern

I recognized this popular design as taken from a Gurley candle.  This is a ceramic mold based on that.

Ghostly Rehab

Following up yesterday's Witch candle, we're going to take a look at another classic Gurley candle.  This one is a popular design of a shrouded ghost holding a Jack O' Lantern.  I thought I'd talk a little about candle maintenance as well.

I found this candle at a garage sale over the summer.  Candles have a tendency to collect dust and dirt and this one was no exception.

Waxy Witchie

Welcome to Day 31, or as we call it in the business, "The Big Dance".  Nah, nobody calls it that.  It's Halloween!!  Or Hallowe'en or even All Hallows Eve if you like to get all olde tymey.

Today's offering is possibly the smallest I've posted this season, but to me, it encapsulates the embodiment of Halloween memories in a wax shell.  In this case a wax witch.  I found this lonely witch among a miscellaneous lot of Halloween decorations at an estate sale this past summer.

Angels We Have Heard on High

I've been very lax about publishing any Christmas content this season (I know, big surprise), but I'm off this week, so hopefully I can give you some last minute presents.

Today I'll show you some Christmas angels I've bought over the past year.

Up first is this Timco light-up angel from the 1950's or '60's. It was made in Japan.

Halloween (and 80's) Wizardry

I've had this witch for a number of years and thought I'd written of her prior.  But it was a Gurley candle that strongly resembled it, which affirms my statements made in that post.

The reason I thought of her was due to these finds I made at the bus driver estate sale.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thankgiving to my readers in the United States.  I thought I'd share some of my Thanksgiving-related finds from over the years.  No special story behind these, just things I liked and now use.  First up are some honeycomb decorations.  We had a Hallmark honeycomb turkey when I was a kid. It was our sole Thanksgiving decoration.  My sister and I would fight over assembling it.
