I like Guthub Copilot Chat and use the built-in capabilities of PyCharm for Python coding daily.
Unfortunately, since this morning the answers from Copilot started to be useless. It 1) uses incorrect line indentation, 2) mixes doc-strings and the body of the function, 3) starts another function before the end of the current one, 4) tries to demonstrate several possible solutions within one function, etc.
Below is an example.
My prompt: Write two functions. 1) Given 2 structures with the same number and sort of atoms but different site numbering, create a dict which maps the indices of the second structure to that of the first one using the shortest distance principle. Distance should be measured with account of periodical boundary conditions. 2) Use this dict to sort atoms of the second configuration.

In the new update, I've been having issues with the chat. The first question gets answered, but the following one stops working; it doesn't respond at all, nor does the new question appear. Additionally, if I work with two IntelliJ windows, after the first question, when I click to send, the chat from the other window I have open pops up.

I'm slowly moving over to Cursor (fork of VSCode) because this and many other AI features are missing in Jetbrains IDEs

This seems to be available now in the latest nightly build. But I am not sure since when was it added. Perhaps around August 16 when there were errors about "Inline Chat". There is no hotkey for it yet. Select text and the button will appear beside the line number, or Shift+Shift, then Open GitHub Copilot Inline Chat

The hotkey is Ctrl + Shift + I (on Mac)

Anybody know if there's a way of accepting the inline chat suggestions without needing to switch to using a mouse? 🤞

I'm having the same issue here, and it's annoying. But when you restart your IDE, it starts working again 🤷🏻‍♂️

This workaround works for me in Intellij IDEA.

I commented on this a few weeks ago and was told a new update fixed it, but it's still doing it. Perhaps worse now, even. I just asked it a yes or no question and its response was 140 lines of code.

Yes, this has been an issue for at least a month now for all JetBrains IDEs (I am using Rider).

Every time I see an update for the plugin I vainly hope they've fixed it but so far, am left disappointed each time.

When I first open the idea, GitHub Copilot can still work and prompt messages, but after working for a while, it keeps spinning in circles without any prompt messages. Why is this? GitHub Copilot chat can still respond normally at this time. Can I see the logs somewhere?

@hstaudacher I'm still experiencing this issue on Win11 & Ubuntu 24.04, latest stable version of JetBrains IDE's and both stable (1.5.11.5872) and (1.5.12.5913-nightly) of the plugin.

Same here, I had to uninstall the Copilot every couple of days and installed again to make it work on Intellij.

That's very strange.
It might be problem with IntelliJ specifically (some colleagues of mines have also had problems with IntelliJ). The screenshot above is from PyCharm.

Hey @Lsans80 looks like you have an old version of intellij. As of version 1.4.7.4174 the lowest supported IDE is 231+, so you're getting a version from January that's no longer getting updates. If you upgrade intellij to 231+, you should see the latest versions of the plugin with the newest features.

Hello @jbehikextreme, thanks for your report. There is a horizontal scroll bar at the bottom of the code block. And you can also use Shift + mouse wheel to scroll sideways. Hope it helps.
