HAPT Golf is the golf workshop of HAPT Lab — a small engineering studio in Tokyo. We started building putters because we could not find one whose claims came with numbers attached.
A putter is a
measurable object.
Almost everything sold to a golfer is described in adjectives. Soft. Confidence-inspiring. Premium. None of those can be checked, which means none of them can be wrong — and a claim that cannot be wrong is not telling you anything.
A putter head is a rigid body with a mass, a centre of gravity and a moment of inertia. Those are things you can measure on a bench, and once you measure them, the design stops being a matter of taste. That is the whole premise of HAPT Golf.
We are engineers first. The CAD, the machining, the test rigs and this website are all built by the same small team, which is why the development can be published as it happens rather than summarised afterwards.

Measure it or drop it
Feel is real but it is not evidence. If a change cannot be shown on a rig, it does not go into a head — however good it sounds in a description.

Small runs, made to order
We would rather mill fifty heads properly than five hundred approximately. Runs are limited because the process does not scale, not as a tactic.

Publish the failures
The prototypes that did not work are more useful to another builder than the one that did. All of it goes on the Lab.

Own the whole path
Modelling, machining, finishing and testing all happen with the same hands. Nothing about the club is somebody else's decision.
