Hello! It’s Valentine’s Day! That time of year where card and candy companies make a profit from people buying something nice for the sweethearts they say “I love you” to on a daily basis. Either that, or it’s that time of year where people bemoan the loss of a relationship, sometimes even the absence of one. Then there are those like me who don’t care either way, but like a good excuse to enjoy a box of chocolates all the same. Alas, I’m not actually eating a box of chocolates today. I’ve got something better! A post on the love lives of our resident Bat Kids! And by “resident,” I do mean Earth-2 of course!

It has been a slow two years for Justice Society fans. With Rebirth about to come to a close, there has been very little in the way of actual stories surrounding the Justice Society’s mysterious disappearance since the start of the New 52 universe. There have been hints and teases sprinkled throughout the Rebirth era, but DC has done little to communicate what Justice Society fans can expect from their return. Well, it looks like we may not have to keep waiting that much longer as one major JSAer made a surprising comeback in this week’s Deathstroke Annual #1: the Earth-2 Power Girl!

With Huntress: Dark Knight Daughter showing us Helena Wayne’s superhero journey–from being the mere daughter of Batman and Catwoman to a heroine of her own standing as the Huntress–Justice Society Vol. 2 continues that journey on broader scale. Whereas Dark Knight Daughter followed Helena’s solo adventures as Gotham’s newest protector, Justice Society Vol. 2 shows us how she works within a superhero team protecting the world at large. We’re now taken out of the streets of Gotham and shown the entire world of Earth-2 and we are subsequently introduced to Helena’s other friends, the Justice Society of America!

When Worlds’ Finest was first announced in 2012, I was really excited for this series. Ever since reading Justice Society of America Annual #1 (2008) by Geoff Johns and legendary artist Jerry Ordway, I wanted nothing more than an Earth-2 Huntress and Power Girl comic. Luckily, we got one as part of the New 52 launch with Paul Levitz as the writer and DC legends George Perez and Kevin Maguire on art duties. A series fronted by Batman’s daughter and Superman’s cousin with their original writer from their pre-Crisis days at the helm and two of the best artists in the industry. There could not have been a better match made in heaven. What could go wrong, right? Well…ironically…plenty did go wrong, beginning with the fact that the DC didn’t actually have any plans for the characters to start with.

This is a question I get a lot from friends and followers on social media and with good reason. After all, in a large superhero universe like DC, there has to be more than one character that I like, right? Otherwise, why bother investing in DC at all?

It’s a no brainer which of DC’s roster of characters would make #1 on my list (duh), but what a lot of fellow DC fans want to know is “who are the other DC characters I love just as much as my #1?

I’ve been thinking about this for a while, and like everyone else waiting to hear anything about Justice Society Rebirth other than “wait and see,” I’ve been doing a lot of speculating on how to bring back the classic Helena Wayne Huntress with Justice Society Rebirth and who would be the character to do it.
