BEN GRIMM & LOGAN "Connecting Flight" Conclusion

...before The Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men, or SHIELD existed, and before Kree Captain Mar-Vell came to Earth, Americans Ben Grimm, Carol Danvers, and Canadian Logan, infiltrated the USSR, where they encountered Natasha Romanoff (who is not operating under her own name)...and since the Russian isn't working with the trio, but against them...it ain't going well!
Sadly, we never see what happens during "Phase Two"!
Written by Larry Hama, penciled by Kaare Andrews and inked by Walden Wong, this never-reprinted tale from Marvel's Before the Fantastic Four: Ben Grimm & Logan #3 (2000) is set in the dawn of the Silver Age Marvel Universe, before the events of Fantastic Four #1!
And there's a reason Natasha isn't using her own name...but we never learn what it is!

BEN GRIMM & LOGAN "Midnight Train to Moscow" Conclusion

When Last We Left Our Heroines and Heroes...

(And yes, that's one of the two heroines in the lower right of the cover)
Logan and Ben Grimm, aboard an experimental flying wing piloted by Carol Danvers, currently in Soviet airspace are forced down by Russian aircraft lead by Natasha Romanoff (who is not currently using that name).
While Grimm and Logan distract the Russkies by doing what they do best...creating mayhem and chaos, Danvers sneaks away...but encounters a threat as dangerous as Soviet soldiers...

And there's a reason Natasha isn't using her own name...but we ain't gonna tell you now!

BEN GRIMM & LOGAN "Mission to Nowhere" Conclusion

Despite the fact the title doesn't have a heroine listed...

...the cover (on the lower right-hand side) shows one of two reasons this tale is being presented here!

Before the X-Men, Fantastic Four, Avengers, or SHIELD existed in the Silver Age Marvel Universe, CIA operative Nick Fury recruited USAF pilot Ben Grimm and Canadian Intelligence agent Logan for a covert mission into the USSR.
After being briefed by weapons manufacturer/technology consultant Tony Stark, Grimm and Logan are taken to their mode of transport...

And now you know why this story is on this blog!

CATWOMAN: THE MOVIE Conclusion

...framed for the murder of cosmetics magnate George Hedare (actually committed by his wife, Laurel), Patience Phillips aka Catwoman is arrested by her lover, Detective Tom Lone (who knows her secret identity)...
To say this flick was almost universally-panned would be charitable.
To be fair, Halle Berry did her best with what she was given.
And, to her credit, she took the criticism in stride, even accepting the Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Actress in person...

Trivia:
Until 2017's Wonder Woman, Catwoman was the highest-grossing superheroine movie of all time!
The film was going to be released in IMAX...

...but the SFX couldn't be completed in time!
Written by Chuck Austen, penciled by Tom Derenick, and inked by Adam DeKraker, this adaptation of the 2004 movie utilizes an earlier version of the script than what was filmed, so there are differences between this and what appeared on-screen!
Why did we present this particular flick as our Black History Month month entry?
1) Catwoman was the first flick to feature a Black superheroine in the title role!
Note: both BlankMan and Meteor Man predated it as Black superhero flicks.
But BlankMan didn't have a comic book adaptation, and Meteor Man had both a movie adaptation and a six-issue sequel series which set it in the Marvel Universe!
We'll be doing Meteor Man next year as a RetroBlog crossover event between Hero Histories, Secret Sanctum of Captain Video and Atomic Kommie Comics!
2) Catwoman starred Halle Berry! 'Nuff said!
Speaking of Halle...tomorrow we'll post a text feature by cover artist Jim Lee about how he was able to get her to pose, in costume, for him!
