How HTPBE? compares to document fraud detection alternatives

Honest sizing — what HTPBE? is positioned for, and when an alternative might fit you better. We don’t do feature-by-feature audits or attack competitors; we describe the deployment model and scope where HTPBE?’s self-serve API + transparent pricing makes sense.

Different layer, not a competitor

HTPBE? vs KYC systems

HTPBE? is not a KYC platform and does not replace one. A KYC/identity stack (Plaid, Persona, Onfido, Trulioo) answers “is this person real and are they who they claim to be?”. HTPBE? answers a narrower, structural question the identity layer never looks at: “was this PDF edited after it was created?”. They operate on different layers of the same document, so the correct choice is not one or the other — it’s both.

What a KYC platform checks

  • Identity: is the person real, sanctioned, PEP?
  • Ownership: does the account belong to the applicant?
  • Data extraction: OCR of names, balances, amounts.
  • Cross-checks against issuer and government records.

What HTPBE? checks

  • Structure: was the PDF edited after it was created?
  • Byte-level forensics: xref, incremental updates, object streams.
  • Signatures: modifications or removal after signing.
  • Assembly: pages spliced from multiple source documents.

A forged bank statement can pass KYC — the identity is genuine, the account exists, the numbers extract cleanly — while the file itself was tampered with in an editor. That structural layer is invisible to identity tooling, and it’s exactly what HTPBE? reads. Run KYC to trust the person; run HTPBE? to trust the file. Neither one substitutes for the other.

Already using Plaid, Persona, or Onfido? HTPBE? drops in alongside them as a separate structural check — one POST with a PDF URL.
