As a wave moves through the water, it creates an upward flow along the wave’s face. Water naturally seeks the path of least resistance, attempting to flow up the wave face, but the surfboard disrupts this movement.

When the board is properly positioned, it channels water toward the tail, generating forward momentum and lift. When the board is flat, water flows uninterrupted, leading to little acceleration.
