In the midnight hour I was walking all alone I could feel all the years behind me Screaming in my bones Close your eyes and its All just gone Seeking shelter Oblivion Lost now in the dream The feeling grows I was someone but No one knows Close your eyes and its All just gone Desperate measures Oblivion Lost now in the dream The feeling grows I was someone but No one knows
2.
Momma said there’d be days like this now When the sun is behind the clouds When you prayed and you prayed for sunshine And all the rain comes pouring down And if you can’t see the writing on the wall And if you can’t feel the weight of it all It goes on and on and on It goes on and on and on Heavy is the head that would hope for anything Beyond what is within their reach Some with a soul that is always finding Some with a mind that only seeks And if you can’t see And if you can’t see the writing on the wall And if you can’t feel the weight of it all It goes on and on and on It goes on and on and on

Headlights on and on I can’t tell how far we’ve gone Lost and losing time I don’t care if you don’t mind Blinded by the light So tell me if I’m wrong or right If I could have known Love and mercy, skin and bone Oh I feel it from my head down to my… In my memory You were running next to me I reached out and held your hand Running hard against the wind Tell me now again What we were when we began If I could have known then What I know now, what I know Oh I feel it from my head down to my…
4.
I said it before To remind me No one else was there Just the voice inside me I said to myself You must remember What it was You were thinking A DIAMOND OF LIGHT! On the tip of the tongue A sword you were pulling From the old ancient stone What was that thought on your mind? What was that thought on your mind? The more I live the more I die Ah yes that was it, that was it The part about dying while living at the same time Did you know that every moment every moment every moment every moment The more I live the more I die
5.
You tell me what you want to You tell me what you need to And I told that lie Hoping that it would come true And I closed my eyes Just so I could make it through But oooh All we are is a shadow connected to Skin and bones reaching out from the inside (in that life no one ever told you How this world wasn’t meant to hold you All that light burning like a fire in you) Now that its plain to see My heart doesn’t wanna believe And I tell myself everyday and everynight What we’ve lost Just so we can try to find But oooh All we are is a shadow connected to Skin and bones reaching out from the inside (in that life no one ever told you How this world wasn’t meant to hold you All that light burning like a fire in you)
6.
Just for a moment I could see the light And now I don’t have to wonder A raging fire burning in my mind I saw it plain as day Oh but the seasons changed We had a garden that was growing there A slow and natural summer We sang a song to keep the birds away And danced to make the rain Oh but the seasons changed Running between all of the spinning plates You had it all on your shoulders You saw the distance and you felt the weight Of knowing what we are Oh but the seasons changed Oh but the seasons…
7.
All the doors closing in my mind Dreaming of what we left behind Oooh lost it in the fire Packing up everything we love Just enough for us to carry on Oooh lost them in my mind Oooh lost it in the fire
8.
I was alone waiting for light Lost in a dream all through the night Oh there was a melody The dark whispered a song to me It said See you in my dreams Old rabid dog dead in his brain Tearing against an old rusty chain I showed him all of my teeth And he wanted to muder me He said See you in my dreams See you in my dreams See you in my dreams
9.
Girl in the moring Lost in the grey Late in the afternoon She blows away And I don’t know why I don’t know why I don’t know Singing to shadows Cast in the shade Ringing around the roses we’ve made And I don’t know why (eeeyooooo) She won’t be leaving Lights on for me Only a fool would Try to believe And I don’t know why I don’t why It’s me It made me shiver It made me shake How she is laughing at Me when I say That I don’t know why I don’t know why I don’t know (eeeyooooo)

about

VANITAS is the debut album from Hyperviolets. The title is taken from the name of a genre of paintings, prominent in 17th-century art, that serves as a reminder of the futility of earthly pleasures and the inevitability of death. The duo worked with this concept in mind, using death as a common starting point for the subject matter throughout and examining it through a different lens for each track. It is not meant to be a macarbe or morbid fixation but rather an embrace of truth, looking at death with a spirit of willingness and acceptance.
