It’s been 5 months since we released everyone’s favorite dog: Watchdog. A lot has happened since then and we wanted to give you guys an update and an outlook on what's planned...
As of today, Watchdog has banned 254,643 players (that’s more bans than all of 2015 combined!) and accounts for 33.2% of all bans in Hypixel history. It's also improved the games of over 4.23 million players!
A key part of Watchdog is it’s ability to adapt and learn. With the help of the community and staff it’s constantly learning, improving and catching more cheaters. Since it’s launch in January, Watchdog’s daily ban count has tripled!
This massive improvement in detecting cheats also means there’s less reports, and less people to ban that haven’t already been banned by Watchdog. So fewer, that the amount of bans due to reports has decreased by almost 65%!
This also means there's less cheaters for staff to chase down, which gives them more time to have fun with the community, handle reports and help other players! As a result, the monthly staff ban count has decreased by almost 50%!
As of May, the monthly staff ban count is at the lowest it's been in the last 11 months!
Of course - we're not stopping there! Watchdog is constantly learning all sorts of new tricks through the help of the community and staff alike. It will always be improving and working to make Hypixel more fun! A special thank you to the staff team and anyone who has helped along the way, you guys have helped to make an enormous impact!
Kit Balances
Based on the community feedback and gameplay you’ve shared with us, we’ve decided to make some kit and perk changes to increase the popularity and playability of some underplayed kits in Ranked SkyWars.
Click the spoiler for more details!
Pyromancer
There’s no time to waste in the middle of a battle! Pyro’s fire resistance potion is now splash
Pyromancer IV and V iron swords sadly couldn’t take the heat and melted, so they have been replaced with diamond swords. This will allow Pyromancers to deal some more damage.
The two lava buckets at level V are no longer stacked; they both have a hotbar slot of their own.
Pyromancer’s perk will now give the user speed II on kill and fire resistance for 24 seconds. Cause more mayhem with no need to worry about burning yourself.
Healer
Regeneration pots are made more effective; their duration is halved but their intensity is doubled as they now give you Regen II.
Say no to those janitors. Healer’s perk will heal you for 8 HP upon kill by instantly healing back two hearts and permanently adding a level of health boost (that’s another two hearts). Not only will this help to prevent you from getting cleaned, it also allows you to have a sustainable advantage for the remainder of the game.
Athlete
Water and an apple alone do not suffice as an athlete’s diet. Give him a fish and he’ll have protein for a day. Teach him how to fish and he’ll have protein for a lifetime! We added a fishing rod to the kit. Sweaty athletes can of course also use the rod to combo their opponents.
Athlete’s perk seemed a bit lacking as it only affected the durations of the juggernaut perk and the rusher perk. Athlete’s perk now also increases the duration of potion effects by 25%.
Scout
Fortune on Scout’s pickaxe did not really seem to work in combination with the mining expertise perk. We decided to remove the fortune enchantment and replace it with efficiency. Speed is key!
Scout’s perk now also doubles the percentage of your mining expertise perk; to make up for the loss of the fortune enchantment.
To discourage people using Scout’s diamond pickaxe as their main weapon - which could cause false rumors of extended reach, we have decided to remove the sharpness enchantments on the pickaxe and put them on Scout’s axe. We also made Scout’s axe diamond, and added efficiency to it.
With the newly added diamond axe there’s no longer a need for the iron sword - so we removed it.
We increased the duration of Scout’s potions to 40 seconds, and added a potion at level IV and V.
Armorer
Looks like Pyromancer accidentally melted Armorer’s iron sword, he now starts without one! Don’t worry though, you can find a diamond sword in one of your spawn chests.
To make every player battle-ready, we’ve also placed Pyromancer’s and Athlete’s swords, as well as Scout’s diamond axe, in the first hotbar slot. Armorer's first hotbar slot will be empty.
Chest Balances
The chest loot has had some small changes too. Snowball stacks have been reduced to a maximum size of 16, so they will no longer clog up your inventory. Furthermore spawn island loot on first and second refill has been re-balanced to encourage rushing mid.
We’ve also tweaked the way chests refill - spawn island loot on first refill no longer includes ender pearls and spawns exactly one prot II diamond piece, also the total spawn island loot on first and second refill has been reduced by 25% - all to discourage people from camping their spawn island.
Ender pearls now spawn guaranteed in every middle chest at first and second refill, to reward players who rush center and to give them a better shot at taking on enemies who turn their spawn island into a military fortress.
Finally, mid chests will respawn on the second refill - chest breakers no longer have a guaranteed win!
That's not all!
We've also made some changes to kill perks across all SkyWars modes; Juggernaut (solo, team, mega, ranked), Savior (solo, team), Tank (mega) and Pyromancer Perk (ranked) now have the same mechanics as the Bulldozer perk. This means that getting a kill will always give you the perk effects for the full duration.
Last but not least the annoy-o-mite perk (solo) has been fixed so that it no longer spawns a treacherous silverfish. Also Ranked Banner gadget should now work in all SkyWars lobbies - the rest of the lobbies will be available soon after they've been rebooted.
We hope you enjoy this season! Thank you all for participating!
