General Balance Changes
We've made tons of General Balance changes both big and small to improve the variety and fun of Blitz games. Some of these changes were suggested directly by the community, so thanks to everyone who posted their feedback to the Blitz SG forums.

Misc:
  • Game timers changed from 3:40 star, 10:00 refill, 20:00 DM to 3:40 star, 4:40 refill, 7:40 DM.

  • Reduced average stack size of arrow drops to 6.

Blitzes:
  • Jedi Warrior - changed to 1 target (closest).
  • Wither Warrior - changed to 1 target (hit player, or closest).
  • Invoker - less upwards velocity.
  • Invoker - sword is now iron fire I instead of diamond fire I sharp I.
  • Invoker - only gives scrolls to you (not your teammate).
  • Invoker - instant death now puts your enemy at 1 heart instead of guaranteed kill.
  • Vault hunter - max sharp values changed to I for diamond sword and II for iron sword/diamond axe.

Gifting: Mystery Boxes

Hey guys! Starting from today, you can now send Cosmetic Mystery Box Gifts to your friends!

Here’s how it works:

Step 1) Purchase a pack of Cosmetic Mystery Box Gifts on our store at store.hypixel.net
Note: Mystery Boxes found via playing on the server as normal are not tradeable. Only the Gift packs bought on the store are tradeable. All mystery box contents are cosmetic only.

Step 2) Once your purchase is complete and you have received your gift pack of cosmetics, visit a Mystery Vault located in any lobby.

Step 3) Click on the new Mystery Gift Inventory icon on the bottom left of that menu.

Step 4) Here, you can see the Mystery Box gift pack(s) you purchased previously.

Step 5) After you’ve clicked on the pack of Mystery Boxes you want to send, a menu with all your friends will appear. Click on the friend you want to send the gift pack to!

If you’re having trouble finding the friend you want to send the gift to, you can type /gift followed by the name of your friend.​

Step 6) Confirm and you’re done! Your friend will receive a chat message and the next time he or she visits the Mystery Vault, the gift will be there!

Please note that you must be Network Level 5 (or higher) in order to be able to send gifts.

By sending gifts to your friends, you will receive cool and unique rewards! Inside the Gift Inventory menu, you will find the Gift Contributor Rewards.

The more gifts you send, the better the cosmetic rewards! Not only will you receive free Mystery Boxes for yourself, but you will also receive the following unique cosmetic items only available to those who send a lot of gifts to their friends!

  • The Legendary Gift Giver Hat allows you show everyone how generous you are by showing how many gifts you have given to your friends!
  • The Legendary Surprise Suit allows you to transform into a gift and let other players interact with you by right-clicking!
  • The Legendary Gifterino Companion spawns four cute little gifts that follow you around in lobbies!
For now we only sell Mystery Box gifts but in the future we plan to have more options. Giving Mystery Boxes to a friend using this system is more secure, and you even get some rewards for doing so! This is only the beginning of Gifting.

Skywars Ranked Update

We've updated SkyWars with a brand new ranked competitive mode, plus new maps, kits, perks, achievements and more!

New Mode: Ranked SkyWars
Ranked SkyWars is a brand new gamemode built around balanced competitive play. Starting with Iron Armour, 4 solo players enter a high-stakes deathmatch - but only one can win!

This mode features new kits and perks balanced for competitive fun, plus you can see your rank on our global leaderboard.

Ranked SkyWars also features a rating system with monthly rewards (to be announced)! If you've played Arena Brawl recently you'll already know the system, but if you'd like to know more just click the spoiler button below:

- For every win up to 500 rating, you gain +25 points
- For every win after 500 rating, you get +5 points. This lowers by 1 for every 1000 rating, to a minimum of 1.
- Up to 100 rating, you do not lose rating
- After 100 rating, you lose 1 point per loss. This increases by 1 for every 100 rating you gain up to a maximum of -25.
- Every 100 rating is a milestone segment which you cannot drop below. For example, if you have 150, you can only drop to 100. If you have 310 rating, you will stay at that rating, and only start losing rating above 400.

Each month we'll be giving out rewards automatically! Try your best to get your rating as high as possible to gain the most prizes.

The Top 1% / 5% / 10% will get the Diamond / Gold / Iron prize tiers respectively.
At the end of each game, you are told what % you are in, as well as your overall position.

In the future, we plan to add at least one more tier beyond Diamond (Emerald)

Website: User Update

We have a small update to the website for you! The look of the user information column in posts has been improved!

The new look features 3 noticeable additions.

Players who have linked their Minecraft account and have bought a rank (or staff). Now have a frame around their forum avatar which represents their rank. So if you have bought VIP, VIP+, MVP or MVP+ you will now have a fancy frame on the forum.

The next addition is that the guild you are in is now shown below your linked Minecraft account. Clicking this will open the guild page on the website. The rank you hold in the guild is also shown!

Thirdly, Players who have bought a rank can now add one out of 18 background images to their user info bit on forum posts. You can change this setting under “Personal Details” in your account menu. You can represent your favorite game like this! Have more images you think should be added? Let us know in the comments below.

Pocket Edition: End of Alpha

Hey guys, we have some news to share with our Pocket Edition players!

On March 31st we will be ending the Hypixel Pocket Edition Alpha. We would like to thank all of you for helping us but unfortunately the end of Alpha means we have to turn off the servers until the Beta phase, the servers will return in 2017 when we resume the Hypixel Pocket Edition.

Please note. For PC / Java players - nothing is changing.

Over 6 million PE accounts were registered during the Alpha and we've been super humbled by the enthusiasm you guys have shown for the project. It's a real shame that we will have to close the Alpha for now, but it's the best decision for us to be able to keep up the Hypixel quality that we want to achieve and focus on content rather than maintenance. Read the post for more information!

Alpha of an Alpha
It’s important to bear in mind that Minecraft Pocket Edition is itself still in Alpha. So technically the Hypixel Pocket Edition is an Alpha of an Alpha. For those unaware, the term Alpha is a term used to indicate that software is still heavily in development and that the core feature set is not yet complete. During Alphas large technical overhauls can occur frequently and on a large scale.
It is quite difficult for us to keep up at this point, instead of adding games we were keeping up with technology that Minecraft was updating month to month. Not having to do network maintenance or administration means we will be able to spend more time developing the backend and make sure it’s ready for beta and avoid several rewrites over the next few months.

Pocket Edition Server Software
Secondly, the Minecraft server application for Pocket Edition is still very much in development. Community created servers are what server networks are using on PE currently. On our side, we worked closely alongside Gurun to develop and support the MiNET project, which is one such community project and open source. We also then needed to create our own framework, games, backend tools and payment methods in order to make the Hypixel PE Project a success.

This can be in very rough terms be summed up as needing to make things which are somewhat the equivalents of the / Minecraft Server / Bukkit / Hypixel Games / Bungee / Hypixel Backend Tools / Buycraft | all at the same time. The scope of the project is actually pretty huge, in order to deliver you guys with really what is the right standard. All of those above technologies to be created.

We are actually very excited by the way that the PE client is being done by Microsoft / Mojang. It's rapidly changing, evolving and getting better with each iteration (Seriously, you should check out the speed of chunks loading on PE vs Java. It's great!). It's shaping up to be really awesome and there's already quite a few interesting unique features. That being said however the rapidly changing versions make it very difficult to create all of the projects listed above to work alongside the client while also doing maintenance on our PE network.

Limitations
Additionally some core features that we rely on for PC/Java do not yet exist on Minecraft Pocket Edition. We feel that features like Authenticated User Accounts, Resource Packs, Scoreboards, Item Data among others are required for us to make it the “Hypixel experience”. We are pretty confident that most if not all of these things will come - however it is just a matter of time.

The most important part is Authenticated User Accounts. Right now, there are an unknown % of players on Pocket Edition are actually cracked/pirated versions, therefore we have no idea how much we need to scale the network in preparation for that change. Scaling a network up to 50,000 players, paying for hosting contracts and then having more than half the players gone by authentication update would have been quite the shock! Also, no authenticated user accounts means that you don't have a profile which we can attach stats and purchases to.

Monetization and Costs
Next important thing to note is that to date, we have not taken any donations or payments for Hypixel Pocket Edition. A few months ago we completed enough work on the Pocket Edition App & other systems where we could have started to monetize in help pay for the server hosting and development costs.

However, by taking user payments we would have been making a long term commitment to our users to continue work on the PE Alpha when we knew that many important features were still missing from both the app and Minecraft itself to be able to recreate the Hypixel quality.

We are hoping you will understand why this is the best thing for us to do right now. Right now the smart thing is rather than to rewrite things many times to keep up, it's better to wait for things to become more stable and to have a more complete set of features to work with while focusing our efforts on content rather than keeping up with changing technologies.

Needless to say, without taking in any payments, the increasing costs to keep up a network of 20,000 players was becoming a problem. We managed to run a few months and see this period of time as an investment as a “Research and Development” phase for the future of Hypixel Pocket Edition.

We will be back!
It's very important to remember that we do intend to come back to Pocket Edition sometime in the future, we think there's huge potential to reach even higher amount of online players than PC. We learned a lot during the project that can be used to help on other projects we are working on and we hope that the PE players who joined the Alpha will come over and join us on our current Java/PC server.

We'd like to thank the players, devs and outside supporters who participated in the Alpha to date, it was way more popular than we expected it to be! We'll keep you updated on future news on Hypixel PE.
