The Club 10:08
Transcript: It was a night like any other; I'd been out, I'd been drinking, smoking. Just out. I was walking home, as I always did. I'd done this a hundred times. I knew that street - I know that street. And maybe it was my sheer dumb luck - or maybe not "luck" exactly. I turned the corner and there was this sign; a pink-red neon sign. No words. Just a symbol. Clubs, like from a deck of cards. Thing is, I had walked this street a hundred times. That sign wasn't there before. Right below that sign, there was a door; a heavy, metal door. No posters, no graffiti, nothing special about it. And coming from behind that door was this sound. Music. I cannot tell you what compelled me to open this door. I could not step away; I know longer had control. I opened the door and I was greeted by a stairway. Now, these stairs descended deeper than they should have. They just seemed to go on and on and on; I don't know how far I walked. And at the very bottom was another door, and I was not compelled further. I opened that door of my own free will. I needed to know what it was that was waiting for me.

Transcript: I don't know how long I had been down there. (How long have I been here?) Time seemed different. I remember dancing, maybe? (I haven't been able to stop) Felt like I'd been running. (I'm so tired) I looked around for the door. (Where was the door?) I couldn't see it anymore. (I don't see anything) I couldn't see any walls. (There are no walls) There were no walls. There was no ceiling. (There's no ceiling) The only reason I know there was a floor is because I could feel it. (What was I standing on?) I don't know where that light was coming from. It seemed to come from everywhere; from the horizon. (Light) Silhouetting these people. At least, I think they were people. The more I tried to focus on them - they were just formless shadows. It burned my eyes, and I shut them. (I need to get out) I reached out. I felt fabric. I pulled it gently towards me. It's a person. I could feel their breath on my face. "What is this place? How do I leave?" They didn't say anything. They grabbed my other hand. They put something in my palm. They grabbed my face. They kissed me - it startled me, I let go, I opened my eyes. No one was there. (They're gone) I looked down at what was in my hand. It was a button. A pin-backed button. (This isn't an answer) With an image on the front. The clubs symbol, like the sign. What did it all mean? Did it mean anything? (I need to get out!)

Transcript: (Scream) I woke up with a start, on the sidewalk, right back where I had been. I looked back and it was gone; the sign, the door, they were gone. The sun was starting to peak up over the horizon. At the time I thought I must have passed out; maybe I'd hit my head or had too much to drink. That I had dreamt the whole thing. And then I felt something in my pocket, a familiar, circular shape. I knew what it was, but I didn't really believe it. Sure enough, there it was. The button. It had been real. It's strange I had spent all that time running, and fighting it. I think it's not until I stopped fighting that it finally let me go. I felt so tired before, but now I wasn't. I felt awake. Good, even. The world felt so much more beautiful now; the street lights, cars passing by, sounds, the wind in the trees, even the smell. I felt happier than I think I had in a long time. I wondered if I was ever gonna see that place again, and looking at the button, I knew. I would. I would. ... I feel like it was trying to teach me something, but I'll be honest I've no idea what it was. Maybe we have to experience suffering and darkness in order to appreciate what's good in the world. Or maybe some things only seem bad because we fight them. Maybe there is no lesson. Maybe the point was just to feel something.
