Olivia Hayward ⚡️Slow Fashion on Instagram: "Hands up for hot pink silk balloon sleeves?!

This thrifted bubblegum pink dupion or raw silk has lots of structure while staying-soft as silk- perfect for this floaty balloon sleeve top.

A drapey fabric wont give you the same balloon (it will make a beautiful sleeve but without the “puff”) so think raw silk, taffeta, organza etc when you want to go big.

This sleeve was just over a meter wide and around 22 inches deep.

Details:

🩷When you stitch the side seams use a regular stitch length until you get to your desired notch (this is totally up to you- could be a couple inches just so the ribbons can be tied up or longer for a more dramatic opening). At the notch DON’T FORGET TO BACKTACK and then change to a longer stitch until you get to Sleeve Stitching, Sewing Sleeves, Balloon Sleeve Top, Silk Taffeta, Bubblegum Pink, Pink Silk, Balloon Sleeves, Raw Silk, Slow Fashion

Olivia Hayward ⚡️Slow Fashion on Instagram: "The bigger the rectangle the puffier the sleeve! Lots of questions about a pattern for the big puffy sleeve. But I don’t use one. Because I use mainly thrifted and second hand fabrics I have to work with what I’ve got. So the sleeve allowance has to be in the budget. I budget in two rectangles. This one is the width of the fabric which is 55 inches. Then the depth is going to be 2x how far you want your sleeve to extend (do some folding and mocking up?) Fold in half short sides together. Cut a curve into the top of the sleeve. The short ends will be at the underneath of the sleeve. If they’re longer the sleeve will hang underneath more. The main thing is: have fun playing around with it!
