Part 1 Ch. VIII- Winston goes into a pub in the prole district and tries to talk to an old man about life before the Party, but the old man doesn’t remember. Winston then goes into the store he bought his diary in and buys a glass paperweight with pink coral inside. The owner of the store, Mr. Charrington, shows Winston the room above his store that has no telescreen. Winston thinks about renting the room for privacy. While walking home, Winston sees the dark haired girl.

Written more than 70 years ago, 1984 was George Orwell’s chilling prophecy about the future. And while 1984 has come and gone, his dystopian vision of a government that will do anything to control the narrative is timelier than ever. 🧧🆘
