The Fell pony is a versatile, working breed of mountain and moorland pony originating in the north of England in Cumberland and Westmorland and Northumberland. It was originally bred on the fell farms of northwest England, and is used as a riding and driving pony. The breed is closely related to its geographic neighbour, the Dales pony, but is a little smaller and more pony like in build. The Fell pony is noted for hardiness, agility, strength and sure-footedness.

The Fell Pony from the west of the Pennines in England looks similar to the Dales and Friesian but is a little smaller. It has a strong physique and a willing nature. The head is fairly small and handsome looking with a kind generous eye and alert small ears. The mane and tail are thick and full. It is predominantly black but can also be brown, bay and grey and stands at 10-14 hands.
