a large quilt hanging from the side of a building next to some trees and bushes

Hello Everyone, Day two of pictures from the photo shoot. This time, Heritage takes center stage. All of the following pictures were taken at Calaveras Big Trees State Park in Northern California. Just so you have some perspective on how large this tree is, the quilt measures 93" x 93". No, the quilt is not levitating. It is on a quilt stand, and through the power of the "retouch" button on my photo software, I can eliminate the stand. The tricky part is getting the stand level in terrain…

a close up view of a quilted star

Hello Everyone, Here are images of two more new blocks for Heritage. It takes me awhile to select just the right fabrics. I don't want them to be too matchey, matchey. I want them to be unique and be able to stand alone on their own within the quilt. There are 49 star blocks in the quilt, giving me 49 chances to get it right! I can't knock it out of the park every time, but I can try! I have a couple more that need to be sewn that are on the block layout sheet. Maybe this afternoon I will…

an old quilt is displayed on a table

Hello Everyone, It has been a busy week under the oaks at Sew'n Wild Oaks. I taught For the Love of Baskets in Turlock at Cloth and Quilts on Tuesday and I'm just now getting around to posting pictures of the blocks the girls made in class. This was a very precise group of quilters! The blocks measure 4-1/2" at this point. I loved the way Diane approached the project. The largest piece of fabric you need for this quilt is 4". So she cut 4" strips from her stash.....that I was drooling…

a quilted table runner with blue and brown designs on it's edges, sitting on a wooden surface

Hello Everyone, I love to receive emails and pictures from quilters around the country who've made my patterns. When I opened this email from Dena in Wisconsin, my jaw dropped, and I uttered an audible gasp. This is her gorgeous creation of my Heritage pattern. Here's Dena's email: I just wanted to say thank you for this beautiful quilt pattern! It was very easy to follow. It is the first quilt I have finished and kept for myself! I tend to make quilts and give them as gifts. Some I have…

a bed with a quilt on top of it

Hello Everyone, Last night after finishing two sides of the binding, I tossed Heritage on the bed to get a good look at it in different light. Why is it the phone takes a better picture than my 'real' camera? It seemed as though I would never get all of the binding sewn on the quilt. Now for the hand stitching. I actually love to work on the binding. It is very relaxing and gives me a sense of completion. I guess I'm going to have to make another Heritage. One for traveling to shows and…

the quilt is made up and ready to be sewned into someone's home

Hello Everyone, Just look at this version of my Heritage pattern made by Kate Phillips. It's gorgeous! In fact it is so gorgeous that it was selected to be in the American Quilter's Society (AQS) 2020 Quilt Art Engagement Calendar! I received an email with this picture of the quilt and a release form to sign and return, giving my permission for publication. It took me about a nanosecond to sign on the dotted line. I'm absolutely thrilled, and I look forward to seeing it in the calendar…

a bed with a quilt on top of it in a bedroom next to two lamps

Hello Everyone, Many of you expressed concern about me walking in the woods with the bears. Sue, in New Mexico suggested that we purchase bear bells for Mazey. She said the downside would be that we would sound like a Swiss goat herd. That got me thinking. When we went to Switzerland, we bought a cowbell. To get it home safely without causing too much noise, I packed it in my carry-on with a sock wrapped around the clapper. We have it at the cabin and use it as our dinner bell when the kids…

a patchwork quilt with several different designs on it

Hello Everyone, An absolutely delightful group of women gathered together at Friends Around the Block in Colusa last Saturday for my Heritage class. By the end of class, the girls had some beautiful blocks completed. I can't wait to go back and see everyone again. The magic begins when the pieces are placed on the block layout sheet which is included in each pattern. (Unless my pattern stuffer, Mr. Joe, forgets to put one in!) The dynamic mother-daughter duo went to town on their blocks. I…
