Dattatreya Ramachandra Bendre (31 January 1896 – 26 October 1981), popularly known as Da. Ra. Bendre, was one of the most notable Kannada poets of the Navodaya Period. He was given the honorific Varakavi ('gifted poet'). Bendre was awarded the Jnanpith Award for Kannada, the highest literary honor conferred in India.

Kuvempu was the first Kannada writer to be honoured with the Jnanpitha Award, India’s most prestigious literary honour. He shared the prize in 1967 with Gujarati writer Umashankar Joshi. Kuvempu has also composed the Karnataka state anthem ‘Jaya Bharata Jananiya Tanujate’. #Kannada #LearnKannada

Kuppali Venkatappa Puttappa (29 December 1904 – 9 November 1994), popularly known by the pen name Kuvempu or by K. V. Puttappa, was a Kannada novelist, poet, playwright, critic and thinker. He is widely regarded as the greatest Kannada poet of the 20th century. He is the first among Kannada writers to be decorated with the prestigious Jnanpith Award.
