1840s day dress

C. 1848-1849 Dreses, probably English

Brown warp-printed plaid day dress. Brown, beige, black dress of woven silk ikat, stripes and ikat checks. High neck, fastens front to waist, full skirt, dropped shoulder, ruffle at upper arm sleeve shaped with fullness at elbow, narrow cuff, trimmed with brown and plaid ribbon on outside edge. American, early 1860s, (probably altered from earlier dress, textile dates to 1850s) Silk taffeta Gift of Esther C. Taylor and Helen Taylor Eging, KSUM 1986.30.1

For this week's Rate the Dress, an 1840s frock in colours that are diametrically opposite to the teals and blues on my sewing table.
