"Music is the distribution of high and low notes in time. “Listening is playing, playing is listening.” This reciprocal relationship is the basis for Cologne-based composer, pianist and improvisor Darius Heid’s ‘Funkstille’ - an ensemble project with which Heid aims to create music that is intense, quiet, and subtle, while integrating artistic themes such as resonance, acoustics, timbre, interaction and perception. An invitation to delve into a subtle intensity, where acoustic spaces are illuminated and the textures of everyday sound are delicately revealed. Soundscapes that re-sensitize our hearing, reframe the familiar.

This double album opens acoustic spaces for listeners to move through. Spaces of calm amidst the noise of the world. Places of clarity, of gentle immersion, where one can follow the details of sound consciously, or simply let them fuse with the sounds of the ambiance and drift between one or the other. Darius Heid creates sensual meditations: explorations of a defined improvisational language that offers a place to focus, to listen with new ears. A place to spend time, because it is beautiful.
