Why I Don’t Teach Academics Before Halloween In My Life Skills Classroom
No academics before Halloween? Yes, you read that correctly. As a functional life skills teacher, I don’t focus on academics the first 6-8 weeks of school. Instead, I focus on routines and expectations, independent work tasks, independent skills, and collecting baseline data in the first 6 weeks of school. This allows my special education students to get into a routine, and know what to expect as we start the school year. Learn how I structure my day during the first weeks of school here.
