Closer to the sun

The Earth will reach its closest point to the Sun 2021 on January 2, at 13:51 UTC.🌍 This is called perihelion — from the Greek “peri” (near) and “helios” (the Sun).☀️ At this point, our planet passes roughly 5 million km closer to the Sun than at its most distant point.

Kepler's 2nd Law - The line joining the planet to the sun sweeps out equal areas in equal times (A1=A2). The time it took to sweep out the two areas are equal (t2-t1=t4-t3). This means the Earth travels faster when it's closer to the sun and vice versa.
