In 1957, accordion player/band leader/TV show host Lawrence Welk was the most popular musician in US history, and made millions doing what he did best.

After running as a local show in Los Angeles for four years, "The Lawrence Welk Show" went national 64 years ago today, on July 2, 1955, when his variety program was picked up by ABC. The show stayed in production until 1982, and has a library of over 1,000 episodes.
