Here’s why… Household white vinegar contains between 5-8% acetic acid which is enough acid that can inhibit the growth and eliminate some not all pathogenic bacteria and mold spores on fruit. Start with a 3:1 ratio of water to vinegar. 3 parts water 1 part vinegar. It’s best to soak fruit before they start to mold. Soak 10-15 min. Rinse fruit in cold water after the bath. Make sure to not add baking soda. When you mix the two the acetic acid in vinegar (which inhibits growth of bacteria) loses a hydrogen atom as it bonds with the hydrogen and oxygen atoms in the baking soda to form a molecule of water. Although it’s not absolutely necessary to clean all produce for those who have an average immune system, I prefer to use this method. At bare minimum - rinsing under the sink with water helps significantly!
