Charlotte on Instagram: "Every year I harvest hazel to build plant supports 🌳 This year I thought I’d try something different by weaving ash splints (the ones harvested in my last reel) through the poles, rather than working with more hazel. This has given me a chance to get a feel for the ash before working on more intricate weaving projects. The splints were soaked before use to increase flexibility. When the garden is still looking pretty bare, there is something really reassuring and uplifting about busying myself in preparation for what is to come. Harvesting canes and brush; building structures and supports; mulching pathways - all become creative acts in building form. Gardening Life on Instagram: "I soaked a bundle of willow for about 10 days and then headed over to Angela’s backyard for a crafty afternoon.
This project was so quick and easy - the towers can be moved anywhere you want, or just stay right in the pots. All you need are 9 tall, straight sticks for the stakes, some twine to tie the top, and some soaked branches that are flexible enough to weave with.
Angela is going to plant some peas in these. They are going to look amazing with some love from her green thumb! Next time we might weave a basket - which will be perfect to harvest the peas! 🧺
