free as in facebook is an expression coined to refer to airport wifi with a captive portal that requests a lot of personal information before providing no cost internet access, later generalized to refer to any service offered without charge in exchange for behavioral tracking, ongoing surveillance, or other monitoring and sale of any such information to third parties.
