The Wonders of Machine Perception: Sensors and What Lies Behind Them - Geometric Computer Vision
The Geometric Computer Vision research group focuses on three-dimensional machine perception, studying the geometric principles of real-world environments and the sensors used to observe them. Their approach extracts additional information from images by not only matching pixels between views, but also estimating surface normal vectors. The method significantly reduces computational requirements in autonomous navigation, making real-time applications possible. Their main research areas include stereo vision, visual odometry, and sensor calibration.
