When working on our laundry room we set out to keep as much ceiling height as possible, cover the insulation, keep the joists visible, and add a little interest to the basement. The result, our recessed beadboard ceiling 😍🤌🤌🤌

The process was a relatively simple but very tedious one. Furring strips to support the beadboard, then measure, cut, fit, trim, fit, nail, repeat. Some people suggested using the beadboard plywood to reduce the need for individual pieces, but that would have been 10x harder. The joists are old, slightly twisted, and not straight, so the cuts to get a good and tight fit would have been very difficult.
