The best way to use complementary color combinations in realistic artwork is to balance the saturation of the colors, and this is easy to do with Copic Markers.
This image is part of my complementary colors exercise for my camera club. The purple BG was blotchy, so I used some PS filters--poster and texturizer. I wish the stems were longer.
