Hours of Catherine of Cleves, in Latin, Illuminated by the Master of Catherine of Cleves, The Netherlands, Utrecht, ca. 1440, MS M.945, ff. 17v-18r

This illuminated Book of Hours was produced in the second quarter of the fifteenth century. It is written in the Netherlandish translation of Geert Grote. Although lacking in full-page miniatures, the manuscript contains eighteen historiated initials by the Masters of Zweder van Culemborg with ornamental initials and decoration throughout. Description: Coram Rege Roll of Henry VII. The roll records court proceedings that were supposed to be carried out before the king in person (coram rege), although that was rarely true. The rolls often include a portrait of the monarch as if to suggest this presence but here the red rose of Lancaster stands in for King Henry VII.
