The Hay Wain – originally titled Landscape: Noon – is a painting by John Constable, completed in 1821, which depicts a rural scene on the River Stour between the English counties of Suffolk and Essex. A recently rediscovered landscape by John Constable will be a highlight of the Old Masters Evening sale in London on 6 December.

When it comes to landscape painting, very few Engish artists can hold a candle to the impressive oeuvre of this artist of the Romantic era. John Constable (1776-1837) was born in Suffolk and although he traveled quite a bit during his lifetime, many of his most famous paintings depict an area called Dedham Vale.
