Painting with underglaze on pottery can be done either during the greenware phase, or the bisque phase. Nikki Mizak chooses to do her underglaze painting on bisque fired clay and enjoys building up layers as you do in watercolor painting.

This Candy bowl is great fun for Halloween! We'll paint sections of the outside of our bowl in orange and white and then cut out the letters B O O and some fun ghosts out of paper. We'll wet the paper, lay it on top of where we've painted, then cover the entire outside in black. After we peel off the paper, we'll add eyes and mouths for our ghosts and fill in the insides of the BOO. We'll leave the inside of our bowl white and create little rainbow dots all over with q-tips and etch either…
