I finished in 4 loops and 8:15. I thought it would be a lot harder since I'm not good with navigation but it was surprisingly fun. Don't know how you made a maze that enjoyable.

Thanks a lot!

The graphics are sooo good, If you dont mind, I would like to know how you did that. Btw Fun game

Developer

Thank you! Our artist is very talented and awesome and cool and amazing and this definitely wasn’t written by them. On a serious note, to make it look like an NES game it just uses one of the preset colour palettes in Aseprite and used a CRT filter we found online.

The aesthetic is top but I wish there was a quick end loop button because I often got lost even though I was sure where I was headed. Also I didn't figure out how to skip the intro.
I'm sure the game is fun but it was too time-demanding for me. Maybe I'm not the target audience, and more hardcore players will fully enjoy it!

Developer

Thanks for playing! We ended up putting off menus until the last few hours, so we missed a few conveniences that would have been nice.

Amazing, I had to keep notes, I kept getting stuck in loops :D

I really dig the style!, but without an ingame map it is really difficult to play. With some luck and loops i got the sword but then I didn’t have the time for the key. I also feel that the theme is a bit forced in a way that it adds nothing to the gameplay and the story except one line of text (or maybe I just haven’t advanced enough)

Developer

Thanks for playing! On reflection, we should have had a map, I think we underestimated how difficult it was for people that weren’t playing it all through development.

Nice game! Even with some pen and paper it was really hard for map out the rooms. At some point I wanted to quit to me menu to reset the timer faster, but then I found out that the level is randomly generated each time so I essentially lost my progress :( The art style works really well to give this retro old TV effect

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks! I do agree, on reflection, a reset run button would have been nice.

Really enjoyed it. the artwork and the music are lovely. Couldn't finish it without drawing a map on paper, which i didn't do. I will get back to it after the jam and finish it for sure.

The retro style artwork is amazing, it's very polished. Music and sound effect is also nice. But the gameplay is fine, It's kind of too easy to get lost in the maze, because all the rooms looks the same. And I found myself just clicking random direction and just hope that it's the right way. So it's not really pleasing when I have to restart all that work. Overall, pretty good!

Developer

Thank you so much for playing! And yeah, we would have tried to think of a way to make the rooms seem more distinct, but we ran out of time.

really cool game, the art is amazing and i can tell a lot of work went into the design. great job!

My sense of orientation is REALLY bad so this was super hard for me. Nonetheless, what an amazing game. Super polished, fun, creative, nice use of the theme. Wouldn't be surprised if this was a winner. Congrats!

8 loops, 15:19.

Memorizing the room layout was a hard but fun challenge. I thought the retro aesthetic was really well done, with the crt filter, sprites, UI, and music all working together to make a very convincing recreation of an NES dungeon crawler.

I love the art! It's a good game (it's really hard tho, I couldn't finish it) and I really liked that the paths change when you return to the main menu
