This tattoo design which I scribbled on my hand is a part of my Croatian culture and heritage. In the middle ages, women and men used to tattoo cross-like designs/patterns on their hands and body so they could preserve themselves from being taken away by the Ottomans. Symbols that were tattooed were motives that resembled crosses, crops, sun and moon etc.; and combined together in a tattoo, they would tell a beautiful story of history, faith and way of life.
