Nothing beats beautiful site-finished hardwood floors - they’re about as classic as it gets! Save this stain combination if you have red oak floors and want to turn them into a beautiful medium brown. I’ve been asked this question a lot, so I figured it was time to share.

White oak and red oak floors have been the standard for quite a while, but even though they both have oak in the name, they aren’t identical twins. There are some key differences, and if you’re considering red oak flooring or white oak flooring, those differences are important to know before you buy.

We had the most difficult time finding lighter hardwood colors for red oak floors. I searched all over and got some good ideas from Pinterest. We wanted something lighter but didn’t like the way some grays made the floors look with more pink hues or with alot of variations. We ended up making our own and love the color. Duraseal 1/2 special walnut and 1/2 classic grey. Its a light mid tone color that made the floors more consistent with less variation.
