The Nelson House, which was built around 1724, may have served as Cornwallis’s headquarters during the final battle of the Revolutionary War, and the battlefield was the site of the British defeat. Both the house and the historic siege earthworks were restored in 1976.

Yorktown VA is where “stuff got real” for the Continental Army during the American Revolution. The quaint port village of Yorktown is surrounded by the Colonial National Historic Park, which includes, of course, the Battlefield. But there are other charms to this riverfront town, including Historic Yorktown and one of the best interpretive Living History Museums in the country. Click on the pin for info on what to do, where to eat, and where to stay in Yorktown VA.
